English Lessons: Advanced Level (Listening & Speaking) In-Person

Looking for a supportive, collaborative space to learn, practice, or develop your English language skills? The Family Center offers 4 classes this Spring: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced (Listening & Speaking), and Advanced (Reading & Writing).

Advanced Level (Listening & Speaking) English Lessons will take place at the Family Center:

3615 Locust Walk, Lower Level of the Graduate Student Center

Access to the building: Touch screen doorbells at the side and front entrances.

Advanced (Listening & Speaking) Class:

  • Focuses on speaking and listening with a certain degree of writing and reading development;
  • Aims to create a student-centered learning environment where students’ interests and needs are heard and considered;
  • Offers opportunities for students to exchange ideas and experiences with peers of multicultural backgrounds by doing role-plays, debates, etc.

English Lessons offered through the Family Center are free and available for Penn students, postdocs, visiting scholars, staff, faculty and their family members/caregivers (age 17+).

Advanced Level (Listening & Speaking) English Lessons will take place at the Family Center, which is a family-friendly space! We welcome learners who are parents and caregivers to register. The Family Center is a membership-based space, so we ask all learners to abide by our Visitor Guidelines (see below).

Family Center Visitor Guidelines

The Family Center is excited to welcome visitors to our facility. For the protection of all, the Family Center adheres to Penn’s Coronavirus policy and we ask all visitors to be familiar with these guidelines as well (https://coronavirus.upenn.edu/ ). Penn’s Public Health guidance continues to evolve and is based on guidance provided local, state and federal authorities. The Family Center strongly encourages members and visitors to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations and wear a mask while in the center and at our events. Visitors should not come to the Family Center if they feel ill or have been recently exposed or diagnosed with COVID-19.

All visitors will be asked to check into the Center and provide contact information. If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and were in the Family Center 48 hours prior to becoming sick or being diagnosed, we encourage you to contact us by emailing the staff at familycenter@upenn.edu.
